Here we find our hero in love. The story goes, one year, Tio Harold was obsessed with Venezuelan woman, thanks to novelas, and wanted to marry one. So my mom decided to take him on a trip to Venezuela to find his “wife.” According to my mom, she and Tio Harold are at a bank when all of a sudden one of Chavez’s coups started, and there were tanks on the streets and bullets firing and my uncle freaking the fuck out. Thus ending their time in the country and Harold’s fascination with Venezuelan women.
lyrics
Place your bets on the women you’ll never meet
who you’ll only ever greet behind a television screen.
And your sister loves you to say the least,
at least enough that she would be
the one to fly you to your dreams.
There are so many munecas on the street.
Do you think that they want to meet
the voices inside your mind? It just might be
the novellas, all that you’ve seen
were only there so they can be
a sustenance so nourishing.
The country you came to meet
turned out nothing like it seemed
on the television screen,
so it’s time to pack your bags, fly away and say,
“So long Venezuela, you have been too kind
with your guns y tu morenas, it has been just fine.”
Now the boy with gears for brains will forever be afraid.
Who finds love in Venezuela? Who has the time?
The women, all that you’ve ever loved.
Did it ever feel enough
when you could never feel their touch?
Holy FUCK!! How it hurts to feel so young
and bereft of the one thing
you wanted for so long.
The bullets are flying over your head
as you hold onto the ledge
hoping to God you won’t end up dead.
All your bags are packed up on the bed.
Your sister tries calm you down
but there was nothing to be said except,
“So long Venezuela, you have been too kind
with your guns y tu morenas, it has been just fine.”
Now the boy with gears for brains will forever be afraid.
Who finds love in Venezuela? Who has the time?

Just inspiring combination of emo-jazz in its purest form. Lyrically it goes over interesting ideas of multiculturalism, parental issues and generational trauma in some of the best ways I've heard in a while. All of the instrumental sections are just beautiful and both singers are outstanding. My favorite moments are probably the almost-yelling section halfway through "I'm From Here" and the horn sections on "Quirk". PeterA
